Envirome

enviromeblogThe “Envirome” is my effort to broaden the use of a term that was initially utilized in psychology to highlight the opportunity to use an “omics” mindset to better understand the impact of exposure to risks and access to resources on human health.  This concept encompasses the term “exposome”, for example contact with carcinogens, airborne particulate matter or mold, and adds other externalities, such as access to healthcare, socioeconomic status, food deserts, the built environment and transportation availability that can have direct impact on human health.  Through open data initiatives, the “Internet of Things” and other emerging sources of information, the Envirome can apply “big data” methods to these complex issues and generate insights that lead to new, affordable and accessible interventions.
