Happy Earth Day!
I encourage you to:
1 – Be informed
Currently I am reading “How to avoid a climate disaster” by Bill Gates. He does a good job of articulating that climate change is a major health crisis and that the annual death rate due to climate change is already on par with that of COVID-19.
Next on my list is “The new climate war” by Michael Mann, author of 1491 and 1493. And then “Beloved Beasts” by Michell Nijhuis.
There are also some new documentaries and specials streaming.
2 – Donate
This year we are supporting the Nature Conservancy. The World Wildlife Fund does great work, as does the Audubon Society.
3 – Change your lifestyle.
Become a “less-beefatarian” – reduce your beef intake.
This year we have started a new goal – avoid products with palm oil. Palm plantations are a major cause of deforestation. This has proven to be far more challenging than we anticipated but that just revealed how widespread this is.
As you begin your post-pandemic planning, see if you can keep a few days a week of remote work to reduce your time commuting.
